Discipline-Students will move magnets for not following rules. The magnets all start out on green each day. Yellow--warning, Orange--time on the line at recess, Red-additional time on the line at recess and possible time out in office. If I feel your child has a serious or habitual behavior issue I will let you know and may request a conference. If you don't hear from me, you can assume that there are no major behavior issues with your child.
Agendas--Students will write homework in the agenda every day (except for Fridays when there will be no homework). I will check it to make sure homework has been written in correctly and initial it. Please check it and initial it every night. Also, if you ever want to write me a note, feel free, and I will do the same.
Homework--Students will bring home their homework folder every night. Papers in the "R" side need to be returned to school. Papers in the "L" side should be left at home. I will send home graded papers in the "L" side of the homework folder.
Morning Snack/Lunch--Our lunch time this year will be 12:10-12:40. With a later lunch time, students will have an opportunity for a morning snack. Students may bring a healthful snack each day for themselves. Please stick to the "Peanut and Tree Nut Free Snack Suggestion List" for safe snacks to send in due to food allergies in our classroom. Our snack time will be after morning recess, around 10:20-10:30. Please be aware that I will not be providing snacks, so if you wish for your child to have a snack, you will need to send one for him/her each day.
Water Bottles -- Students will not be permitted to use water bottles in the classroom. With every student using a chrome book this year, I would rather not take a chance on spills. Students will have many opportunities throughout the day to get drinks of water from the water fountains.
Birthdays -- If you would like to send in treats for your child's birthday, please let me know ahead of time. We have students with various food allergies, so please send store-bought treats/snacks in their original, unopened packaging. Please stick to the "Peanut and Tree Nut Free Snack Suggestion List" for birthday snacks, due to food allergies in our classroom. If you do not wish to send any snacks, that is fine, too, of course. Thank you for your understanding.
Report Cards/Grades -- Per corporation policy, report cards for second graders will have only two subjects this year: Language Arts and Math. The Language Arts grade will consist of grades taken in the areas of Reading, Spelling, Writing, Language, Science and Social Studies.
When your child's report card comes home, please sign it and return it in the envelope. If you have questions please let me know.
Related Arts Our "related arts" schedule is as follows:
Mondays: Music and Computer Lab
Wednesdays: PE (wear or bring gym shoes!)
Thursdays: Computer Lab
Fridays: Library and Art
Accelerated Reader(AR)--Students will have time every day to read books on their reading level. They will have the opportunity to take AR quizzes after reading any books that are AR and earn points. Beginning in September, students will have a goal of 6 AR points each month.
**I will send home an AR report every two weeks so you can see what quizzes your child took and how many points they earned. Please sign and return the report to school.
Pizza Hut Book-It Program: Our class will be participating in this program for the months of October through March. Students who earn at least 6 AR points each of those months will earn a coupon for a free personal pizza from Pizza Hut. Students have many opportunities to take quizzes on AR books they have read or have been read to them throughout each school day.
**If you ever have questions or concerns about anything, please do not hesitate to contact me by sending a note, sending an email, or calling. The school number is 522-7483. My home phone number is 524-0075 (if you call my home, just leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as possible. I have two young children and am usually busy with them in the evenings. Thanks for understanding).
I'm looking forward to a great year with your child! Thank you in advance for all you do to make my job so enjoyable!
