Welcome to Mr. Woodard's Web Page!
I will make every effort to update these pages each week (and post homework each night). **Please note the different pages for general information, what we're working on, and homework. Students write their daily assignments in their agendas. Please initial agendas each night, and ask your child about his/her school day: classwork, recess, special classes, their friends, etc. I'm looking forward to a great school year with your child!
We'll have a new reading series this year. We will be using that along with novels throughout the year.
We'll have words that go with our reading story each week. We'll work with words in class daily. As the year progresses, I will select troublesome words/content area words for our spelling lists. Generally, we'll have a practice test each Thursday. If students earn 100%, they will not have to re-test on Friday.
Students will have daily assignments out of our math book. They will also have a practice book to work in. If it is still available, students will also do math work on the computer that will count toward their grade.
Per corporation direction, we are to teach Science for approximately two weeks each grading period during our reading instruction time. This is a minimum requirement that every elementary teacher in our corporation will be doing every grading period. As time allows, I will try to tie Science in to some of our other subject areas as much as possible.
We have a textbook we will use. We'll cover the chapters in order. I'll try to do a variety of hands-on activities to help students learn and understand the material.
We will not be doing the Shirley Method for English. We will have an English textbook that we'll use as a guide for assignments. There will also be some worksheets to practice skills learned. Some of the English grades will come from writing assignments done in class.
Students will fill out their agendas daily. Please check them nightly and initial them so I know you're aware of what we're doing. Also, I use the agenda to write notes to parents if needed. Please do the same. If you need to contact me, send a note, write a note in the agenda, call school, or email. Please note, sometimes I cannot check my email until students have left for the day. You can also call me at home in the evening. Please leave a message and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Home phone- 524-0075.
